Chemical and physical exfoliants — lactic acid, rose clay and rose petal powder — gently buff away buildup.
Power-plumping and Ayurvedic ingredients — turmeric, rosehip oil, rose water, glycerin, chickpea, mung bean, neem and ashwagandha — calm the skin with a dewy dose of hydration.
Together they leave your skin feeling decongested, refreshed and cared for with a generations-old practice.
We think it’s just as important to speak to who Gulabi might not be right for, because no product is right for every human’s skin. Read more.
In keeping with the history behind the recipe, all ingredients and their concentrations were selected with intention.
KEY INGREDIENTS:
Lactic acid is a gentle yet effective alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that promotes the shedding of dead skin cells to soften and smooth skin's texture and tone.
Our aunties favor lactic acid – sometimes in the form of yogurt! – in our family recipes for good reason. We love lactic acid because of its large molecular size, meaning that its penetration is less deep than other AHAs and is therefore kinder to (often more melanated) skin prone to hyperpigmentation or irritation.
Since we coupled lactic acid with other exfoliators in this mask, we fine tuned its concentration to be low enough to avoid harshness. At a gentle concentration, lactic acid can also help to retain moisture and maintain the skin's barrier.
Rose Clay
Kaolin is an absorbent, soft clay that mildly exfoliates and helps draw out excess sebum from the skin.
We carefully sourced this particular rose clay – a favorite in Ayurveda – because it combines the absorbance of red clay with the gentleness of white clay. This combination, along with our unique cream-and-clay formula, makes our mask uniquely effective while not drying.
Rose Petals
The flecks you see in this mask are real rose petals. Fresh roses are dried and then ground to a finer powder. The soft particles sweep the surface of the skin, adding gentle physical exfoliation without the harshness or microtears that can occur with some physical exfoliants.
Rosehip Oil
An emollient rich in fatty acids, rosehip oil helps soften, smooth and moisturize the skin without clogging its pores. Unlike an essential oil, rosehip oil is sourced solely from the fruit or seeds of the plant, making this ingredient a family-favorite for sensitive skin too.
Rose Extract
Rose extract has been used for centuries as a skin conditioner – the extract is collected via water-distillation from the flower’s petals to smooth and soothe sensitive and dry skin.
Key to this family recipe, this extract is sourced from turmeric root and uniquely calms and soothes the skin with its rich antioxidant properties.
After testing dozens of forms of turmeric, we chose a powerful extract that brings out the magic of turmeric without the irritation, staining or microbial concerns that we observed with turmeric oils and raw powders.

Cleanse your face and pat it dry with a towel.
Apply a generous dollop of Gulabi to your face in a thick, luscious layer, avoiding the eye and lip areas. The layer should be thick enough where you don’t see your skin show through.
Relax for 5 minutes. Stop and smell the roses – make a warm beverage, call an auntie, you do you.
Then, using plenty of lukewarm water, gently massage the mask in a circular motion with the pads of your fingers, feeling the petals sweep the skin. Rinse the mask off completely.
Follow up with your favorite moisturizer and sun protection, always.
Even though the ingredients and their concentrations in this mask are nice and gentle, we recommend starting with a Gulabi mask once per week.
